Ron Paul for President in 2008

Without getting into the reasons why I’m not considering any of the other current presidential hopefuls, please allow me to introduce you to a man who I believe has our country’s best interest at heart, Dr. Ron Paul.

In my opinion, he’s the statesman we need for the tough job of restoring our Constitution and our Republic. If after learning more about this man you still cannot give him your vote at least give him your prayers. Statistics show that going against the flow in Washington can be a very dangerous act.

About Ron Paul

Ron Paul for President Congressman Ron Paul (R-Texas) is the leading advocate for freedom in our nation’s capital. As a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Dr. Paul tirelessly works for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies. He is known among his congressional colleagues and his constituents for his consistent voting record. Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution. In the words of former Treasury Secretary William Simon, Dr. Paul is the “one exception to the Gang of 535″ on Capitol Hill.

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.

While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. In 1976, he was one of only four Republican congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president.

During that time, Congressman Paul served on the House Banking committee, where he was a strong advocate for sound monetary policy and an outspoken critic of the Federal Reserve’s inflationary measures. He was an unwavering advocate of pro-life and pro-family values. Dr. Paul consistently voted to lower or abolish federal taxes, spending and regulation, and used his House seat to actively promote the return of government to its proper constitutional levels. In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.

Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th congressional district of Texas. He presently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.

Congressman Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one of his congressional colleagues to say, “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman. He makes it clear that his principles will never be compromised, and they never are.” Another colleague observed, “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”

Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record

  • He has never voted to raise taxes.
  • He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
  • He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
  • He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
  • He has never taken a government-paid junket.
  • He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
  • He voted against the Patriot Act.
  • He voted against regulating the Internet.
  • He voted against the Iraq war.
  • He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
  • He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
  • Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably more than any single member of Congress.

What People are Saying

Many Americans have become disillusioned with our political system. Year after year, election after election we hear all the same promises: Lower taxes, balanced budget, smaller federal government, responsible foreign policy, etc. But we are always left with, higher taxes, ever increasing federal deficits, ever-expanding federal bureaucracy, a foreign policy based on deceit, and a domestic policy that continually restricts our freedom.

We, the people, know things are not right; yet we know our nation was founded on principles that allowed the United States of America to rise above all nations.

Are we the United States of America that our Constitution intended?

For many years our government has been drifting away from the unparalleled wisdom of the blueprint that created a near perfect Union.

Our Constitution has been battered, assaulted and ignored to the point of becoming a fading memory.

The answer to restoring our great nation – respected throughout the world – is to reinstate the Constitution. Our republic can be saved if our politicians return to the doctrine that created it.

There is one man who believes in our government operating solely under the purist intentions of our Founding Fathers: A man who governs according to the Constitution, even when he is the only one.

Ron Paul is the only man who can lead the way.

There is hope for America. Be a part of it.

Far too many Republicans in recent times have claimed to be fiscally responsible in principle, only to then vote for big spending programs that will leave our grandchildren bankrupt. They claim to believe in the Constitution’s limits on government’s power, but their actions say something else entirely.

That is why your decision to formally explore running for the Presidency is so important.

Sadly, not many in public life fully understand the Constitution which they have taken oaths to defend, nor do they fully grasp the principles of liberty upon which it is grounded.

That is why I appreciate the fact that you are willing to consider entering the competition of ideas that is a Presidential race.

As Congress’s premier defender of the Constitution, you would have the platform necessary to espouse the ideals that are vital to turning America around - and you would be in a position to hold other candidates accountable for talking one way to their supporters at home, and then voting another way in public office.

I look forward to the prospect of you running, and having the platform to raise the issues that too many candidates would prefer to ignore.

Ron Paul is one of the most principled and courageous men I have ever known. He believes in our Constitution and votes that way in Congress, even when he sometimes has to stand almost alone. I have the greatest respect and admiration for Ron Paul, and I believe this nation would be a much better place if we had more people like him in public office throughout our land.

My name is Liam Clements. I am a high school senior from West Chester, Ohio, a suburb outside the city of Cincinnati. Now, I realize that I am not a member of your district in Texas, but I believe the service you provide to the 14th district is needed on a national scale. The 2008 Presidential election is far too important to let big government win again. Slowly, the parties are merging, and this country needs someone that stands up to the establishment rather than become it. That someone is you sir.

How long must we go until a maverick politician such as yourself rises to the occasion and brings to the forefront the issues that really matter to the American people? We have the chance here to write the history books if you decide to run for President in 2008.

In my school, many teens consider Ron Paul a real hero. I hope those who vote will keep the wishes of my generation in mind.

I have a silver bracelet with “WWRD?” engraved into it. The R stands for Roark, and Rilke and Rostand and for several other heroes of mine. Now it will also stand for Ron Paul. He is a hero by the strongest definition of the word. Ron Paul is a constitutionalist who votes based on principles that support our rights as individuals.

But it is how he does is that makes him a HERO. He consistently stands undaunted in the face of opposition. He is dedicated to protecting “the good.” He is uncompromising in his standards, valiant in his efforts, and he does it all with a quiet nobility that is inspiring. He does what is right. He tells us the Truth. It is this that defines him as a HERO for our times.

What would Ron do?

* Stand for Americans and a future of freedom still possible to us when we follow the Constitution.
* Awaken HOPE where many people aren’t even aware it has been lost.
* Give us back control over our own lives.
* Empower us as mighty individuals to solve problems for ourselves and our communities

Ron has been willing to stand alone in Congress and fight for our freedoms. Don’t let him stand alone.

Every day I hear intelligent good people say “Ah well there’s nothing we can do about it.” Untrue.

For all those moments of beauty, for all the times you have recognized the Truth —before the sinking feeling followed when you thought “it’s no use” – follow his white plume. It is on the road to victory and honor.

Debt and Taxes
Working Americans like lower taxes. So do I. Lower taxes benefit all of us, creating jobs and allowing us to make more decisions for ourselves about our lives. (more…)

American Independence and Sovereignty
So called free trade deals and world governmental organizations like the International Criminal Court (ICC), NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and CAFTA are a threat to our independence as a nation. (more…)

War and Foreign Policy
The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. (more…)

Border Security and Immigration Reform
The talk must stop. We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked. This is my six point plan: (more…)

The biggest threat to your privacy is the government. We must drastically limit the ability of government to collect and store data regarding citizens’ personal matters. (more…)

  1. 1 Amy

So far I like what I am reading!! One question though William!! This guy would be perfect if he likes Starbucks LOL

Ok I was kidding, he really does sound like a great candidate for the hectic job!! He has my vote!!

  2. 2 Kerrie D

First of all, someone needs to notify Amy, that STARBUCKS does not support the soldiers that are involved in the war. Apparently, a group of soldiers, deployed in Iraq, wrote to STARBUCKS and asked for some of their delicious coffee. What the soldiers received was a letter explaining that not only do they (STARBUCKS) not support the war, but they (STARBUCKS) do not support the soldiers that are involved in the war. Hmmmmmm….I’ve given up drinking STARBUCKS, over-priced, coffee. I figured she may want to know that, since she’s a military wife.

Now, I believe you left out some very important issues that you have failed to mention about your chosen candidate.

After I saw him on your FACEBBOK page, I googled Mr. Ron Paul. I’ll admit, I liked what I read about him, on his web page. Then, I started thinking about “key words” and I quickly had a change of mind. I WILL NOT SUPPORT ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THAT, all persons are the absolute owners of their own lives, and should be free to do whatever they wish with their persons or property, provided they allow others the same liberty and avoid harming others by abusing their liberty.

Libertarianism is often viewed as a right-wing movement, especially by non-libertarians in the United States. Under the concept of fusionism, American libertarians tend to have more in common with traditional conservatives than American liberals, especially with regard to economic and gun control policies. However, many describe libertarians as being “conservative” on economic issues and “liberal” on social issues. (For example, most libertarians view Texas congressman and former Libertarian U.S. Presidential candidate Ron Paul to be a philosophical libertarian, even though he is technically affiliated with the Republican Party.)

Conservatives are likely to support a ban on same-sex marriage in the interests of preserving traditional order, while liberals are likely to favor allowing same-sex marriage in the interest of guaranteeing equality under the law. Libertarians are likely to disagree with the notion of government-sanctioned marriage itself. Specifically, they would deny that the government deserves any role in marriage other than enforcing whatever legal contract people choose to enter, and to oppose the various additional rights currently granted to married people

I OPPOSE SAME SEX MARRIAGE. I will not support a candidate that doesn’t. I can’t even believe you will, Billy!

    Kerrie D.,

I’m a little surprised that you could not tell that Amy was kidding about Ron Paul liking Starbucks. I don’t know if he likes them or not, but I do know that Amy’s husband has served in Iraq and is possibly there now. I can assure you that she knows about Starbucks’ recent letter explaining why they’re not providing their coffee to our troops. In short the letter says Starbucks does not support the war.

Secondly, I do not want to get into a political debate here on my blog. Hence the reason I started off this post by saying, “without getting into the reasons why I’m not considering any of the other presidential hopefuls”.

You are obviously entitled to your opinion just like the rest of us here in America. I only offered this information so that it may inform my readers. Everyone has to make their own decision based on their beliefs and feelings.

I do not know if there is such a thing as a perfect candidate, but it is my “opinion” that Ron Paul is a very good guy who has an idea of what America was and should be again, an idea that is nearly parallel to my own.

That is why he will get my vote!

  4. 4 Pieter Friedrich

Good grief, people! Do your research. The Starbucks story is an urban legend. Look here.

And I am, also, supporting Paul for President.

  5. 5 William McGill

Thank you Pieter for clarifying this for us. It’s difficult to research everything. I knew that something wasn’t quite right about the Starbucks story. I just didn’t realize the whole story was untrue.

Amazing how one comment can completely divert the topic away from my original post. :)

    Thanks again!
